The hot weather in July was incredibly challenging for our combining of the rapeseed oil crops. Combining when it’s so dry means the seed doesn’t press well so doesn’t produce the volume of oil we want. As there is already a shortage of sunflower oils from Ukraine right now, this makes rapeseed oil very sought-after this year.

Calving has started & Meggy Moo’s heads to Westminster

August & September are such busy months here at Rawston Farm. We have finished an early harvest this year, we have been clearing the straw from the fields for winter feed and bedding. It’s also the time our dairy cows are calving and having their babies so that they can produce lots of milk. We sell our milk to a cooperative called Arla, which I’m sure you’ve all seen advertised. You’ll have seen the butter, cheese, milk and other dairy products with their label on.

How checking your food labels supports our British Farmers

We know only too well that you’re all busy people, running around holding down jobs, managing your homes, your families and the food budget. Your time is precious and in short supply.

When you’re pushing your trolleys around the supermarkets you definitely don’t have time to check the details of the labels of everything you pick up. The shame in this is that supermarkets have very clever marketing ploys. At a quick glance the packaging looks totally home produced from somewhere here in England, but turn it over and it’s a very different story, the same label but with the contents coming from a whole host of different countries. The Union Jack is only on there on the odd occasion, what a travesty.
